3.2 Servant Leadership & Style

In 2026, the era of "Command & Control" is dead. Success is driven by the Servant Leaderβ€”the one who carries food and water for the team.

πŸ›‘οΈ The Servant Leader Mindset

Your job is to remove rocks from the road, not to crack the whip.

πŸ’‘ 2026 Focus: Impediment Removal

Your most critical daily action is neutralizing Impediments. If you aren't clearing the path, you aren't leading.

🧭 Situational Leadership (SLII)

You cannot treat every team member the same. You must adapt to their readiness.

S1: Directing
Low Skill / High Will

Tell the learner exactly **what** to do and **how**. (e.g., A new hire on day 1).

S2: Coaching
Some Skill / Low Will

High direction + High support. Explain **why** and encourage them through failure.

S3: Supporting
High Skill / Variable Will

Facilitate their decision-making. Don't tell them how; ask "How can I help?"

S4: Delegating
High Skill / High Will

Give them the goal and get out of the way. Trust the expert.

🧠 Emotional Intelligence (EQ)

EQ is the "secret sauce" of leading through crisis.

  • Self-Awareness: "I am angry right now." (Recognizing triggers).
  • Self-Management: "I will take a breath before replying." (Controlling impulses).
  • Social Awareness: "The team looks exhausted." (Empathy).
  • Relationship Management: "Let's take a break and reset." (Influencing others).

πŸ“ Exam Insight: If a high performer suddenly starts missing deadlines, do NOT micromanage (S1). Switch to **Supporting (S3)**. Ask open-ended questions to find out if they are burned out or facing personal issues.
